Despite the constant efforts of the most dedicated liberty activists, our freedoms in this country have been slipping away. It’s not for a lack of electing politicians based on their campaign promises. The nation’s slow march towards socialism continued even when Republicans won the House, the Senate, and the Presidency in 2016.

That slow march turned into a sprint in 2020. The coronavirus outbreak empowered state governors to shut down bars, restaurants, churches and movie theaters nationwide. Anyone who dared open their business to the public was threatened with fines and jail time. Anyone who dared to sit down with their friends and family on thanksgiving were threatened with a visit from the police. 

Now, under the Biden Administration, there are talks of banning “assault weapons,” huge tax hikes, and a “green new deal.” How did we get here?

The attack on freedom and liberty is nothing new. This is a battle that has been waged for over 100 years in the United States. The beginning of big government as we know it today began with President Roosevelt’s New Deal, or even before, with the establishment of the Federal Reserve and the national income tax.

At the time of the New Deal, conservatives were outraged by the socialist ideas and programs. Republican candidates for President campaigned on repealing big government programs like social security. Since 1950, The United States has had 7 Republican Presidents, and none of them have come anywhere close to reversing, and many expanded, FDR’s New Deal or Johnson’s Great Society. 

If candidates for office don’t keep their promises, then what can the people do? Some will say all is lost.

I say it’s time to give the progressive activists that lead the Democratic Party a taste of their own medicine. Liberals and Progressives keep winning because they take real political action. They call their legislators, they show up to protests, they threaten their own elected officials with primary challenges unless they fall in line. 

These are the tactics that the North Star Liberty Alliance has been employing on a state level… 

… And it works.

He can’t take the hint. Brad Tabke, who lost his Minnesota House seat in the 2020 election to liberty-champion Erik Mortensen, is looking to make a return to the public eye. 

Just last week, Tabke announced that he is once again running for office. His early announcement likely means the DFL is targeting district 55A as a potential pickup for 2022.

Though he routinely positions himself as a moderate, he made a name for himself as one of the most liberal legislators in the Minnesota House. What’s even more strange, is that he has said he has no interest in working in government. 

Even though he only held the seat for a single term, Tabke did some serious damage to the cause of liberty. Here are a few reasons why voters kicked him out:

1. “The Tabke Tax”

Brad Tabke takes pride in his radical tax proposals. In office,Tabke hiked the sales tax, property tax, gas tax, and tried his hardest to hike the income tax. On the house floor, Tabke said he would love for the sales tax to be renamed the “Tabke Tax”. Watch our video on Taxin’ Tabke here.

2. He Supports Gun Confiscation

In the 2020 legislative session, Brad Tabke supported and voted for HF 9. This bill would allow the government to confiscate firearms without due process. Tabke is no friend to the second amendment, and will continue to infringe upon your rights if given the chance. 

3. He’s One Of Walz’ Best Friends

While in the legislature, Brad Tabke stood by Governor Walz at every turn. Over the course of 2020, Brad Tabke voted to renew Walz’ job-crushing emergency powers EVERY TIME. What can he say to the small business owners of his district who have closed their doors forever?

For these reasons and many more, Tabke ought to stay out of the Minnesota House. He is bad for the people of district 55A and bad for the people of Minnesota.

Impeaching a sitting government official is not something to take lightly. It is, however, sometimes necessary.

After careful consideration and discussions with elected officials, The North Star Liberty Alliance (NSLA) has determined that a grassroots effort to impeach Governor Walz MUST happen.

Minnesota has been ruled by executive order for more than 11 months. In that time, the legislature’s constitutionally designated role to create legislation has been swept to the side. Walz has used his self-anointed power to infringe upon our rights as a free people. 

Early this year, NSLA activated its largest campaign EVER by sending letters to voters statewide, informing them of the need to impeach Governor Walz for his tyrannical behavior. 

NSLA has been talking with elected officials to find their official stance on impeachment. It appears that a few of them might need some political pressure to do the right thing.

On Monday, patriots in North Dakota took a step towards freedom from COVID regulations. In a vote of 50-44, the North Dakota House of Representatives passed a bill making mask mandates illegal. 

This bill was brought up after North Dakota’s Governor, Doug Burgum (R), instituted a mask mandate of his own. This is a prime example of legislators standing up against government overreach. 

Instead of passing a similar bill here in Minnesota, legislators are trying to write Walz’ tyrannical edicts into law forever! What are Republicans in the legislature doing about it?

It appears they are on the verge of giving up and compromising.

Even so, there are still a few liberty-champions who are standing up to Governor Walz’ authority. Representative Erik Mortensen has introduced Articles of Impeachment against Walz for his abuse of power and ignorance of the separation of powers. The North Star Liberty Alliance (NSLA) is ready to help him make impeachment happen.

In his Insider Report, Representative Erik Mortensen (R-55A) called out the lack of action on bills that get introduced in committee. 

“...I would be willing to bet that something like eighty percent of the bills that we hear in committee, we don’t even vote on”. 

Mortensen notes that these bills are being rolled into an end-of-session Omnibus bill and that the more proposals that are put into this bill, the worse that it’ll be. He says this has happened in two of the committees he sits on. 

This has been a long time strategy of establishment legislators in St Paul. By putting a combination of both popular and unpopular proposals in one giant bill, legislators will often give in and pass it for the sake of the popular proposals that they want to succeed. 

These Omnibus bills make accountability more difficult. When constituents ask why a legislator voted for this big spending bill, they can point to one small aspect of the bill that might be good for their district.

This is one of the reasons that taxes and spending only seem to increase in Minnesota, and Republicans are the ones voting for it. 

What’s worse, is that Omnibus bills violate the Minnesota State Constitution. 

Article IV, Section 17 of the Constitution of Minnesota states a “single-subject rule”:

“Laws to embrace only one subject. No law shall embrace more than one subject, which shall be expressed in its title.”

According to Merriam-Webster, “omnibus” is an adjective meaning… “containing or including many items”.

The intent for the single-subject rule is clear. If legislators are to uphold their oath to the Minnesota Constitution, they must stop Omnibus bills from being created.

Despite the failure of the Minneapolis bailout bill in the Minnesota House, it’s getting revived by none other than RINO Republican Kurt Daudt. 

The Bill, HF 445 gives millions of dollars to the City of Minneapolis for “...expenses incurred in responding to emergencies”. The emergencies being referred to here are the Minneapolis riots that took place in the summer of 2020. Why should the people of Minnesota pay for the mismanaged mess caused by Mayor Frey and Governor Walz?

The initial bill was brought to the floor last week and failed along a bipartisan vote of 71-63. Now, in a complete 180, Daudt is signing on to Walz’ equally bad proposal.

Daudt was praised by the StarTribune Editorial Board for coming out in support of the $35 Million spending increase. If you have praise from the “Star and Sickle”, then you know this is bad. You can read their puff piece here. 

If Daudt is able to whip the rest of his caucus behind this proposal, then there is no doubt that HF 445 will pass with flying colors. 

This is outrageous. Where is the fiscal conservatism that these legislators campaigned on? Even Paul Gazelka -- The MN Senate RINO-in-Chief -- is a no on this one. 

Passing this legislation would get Frey and Walz off the hook for their negligence. They NEED this in order to secure a win in their upcoming elections.

According to a Morning Consult and Politico poll, 57% of US voters are ready to get students back in the classroom, while only 26% see it as a bad idea. You can check out the full poll results here.

These results speak volumes, and it's clear why. Students yearn for the social interaction that they get in the classroom. Because of online classes, depression and suicide among youth skyrocketted in 2020. Holding courses online for everyone is not sustainable, and parents should take note. 

It’s clear that President Biden and Governor Walz aren’t trying to fix things. Though the CDC has said that COVID-19 transmissions in the classroom are miniscule, the Biden administration is satisfied with reopening schools only once a week come spring. 

Just because Governor Walz has relaxed some of his rules for schools and businesses (which he never had the authority to do in the first place), doesn’t mean he won’t try to do it again in the future. 

Pandemic “experts” like Dr. Osterholm predict a resurgence in COVID cases, and a need to lock down even further in the spring. Right now, there is nothing stopping Tyrant Tim Walz from locking down our economy and keeping suffering students at home. 

Legislators need to take this poll data to Governor Walz and tell him to give up his emergency powers. If Walz continues with his tyrannical edicts, then he must be impeached and removed from office. 

Representative Erik Mortensen is leading the charge for impeachment, but he needs help getting across the finish line. Show your support for Mortensen by signing on to the impeachment petition.

The Minnesota Jobs Coalition has earned a reputation of supporting RINO Republican candidates for Minnesota House. This PAC was founded by a former Kurt Daudt staffer and has been said to have plenty of influence from Daudt. 

Last cycle, The Jobs Coalition spent more money in a primary against Republican-Endorsed candidate Jeremy Munson than against any individual DFLer. According to campaign finance reports, Daudt’s group spent $11,760 against Munson. 

His group also spent money against candidate Erik Mortensen, spending $4,940 in his district.

It’s no secret that Kurt Daudt has opposed patriots like Mortensen at every turn. For Daudt, obedience stands above principle.

He knows that real rock-solid conservatives won’t vote for his big budget omnibus bills and spending increases. Daudt is looking for an easier time as minority leader, rather than helping candidates like Mortensen kick out liberal DFLers and secure a conservative majority. 

Both Munson and Mortensen ended up winning their primaries despite opposition from Daudt, and won their general elections.

“The next 14 weeks will be, I think, the worst of the pandemic”

Dr. Michael Osterholm is a Minnesota native and longtime pandemic doomsayer. The past year has afforded him enough credibility to be picked up by the Biden administration as an advisor. Now, he may be slowly losing that credibility with his wacky predictions. 

Earlier this week, Osterholm went on CBS to predict a dark 14 weeks ahead, saying that the new strains of the coronavirus will cause a surge bigger than anything we’ve seen and be the worst of the pandemic.

This statement received severe pushback from other medical experts. Today, Blois Olson of WCCO highlighted this Twitter thread from a MN Department of Health official in response to Osterholm.

These alarmist reactions from people like Osterholm are nothing new. There have been wild predictions about where this pandemic is going for over a year.  

Even Governor Walz is questioning Osterholm on this! That’s right, the man who predicted as many as 74,000 COVID-19 deaths in Minnesota is now saying Dr. Osterholm’s surge prediction is “...not the CDC’s position…”. You can read the full remarks from WCCO’s Morning Take.

This complete circus of pandemic predictions has gone far enough. Politicians have enjoyed using these wacky guesses to justify their overreaching economic lockdowns. 

It’s time for tyrants like Governor Walz to realize the reality of this pandemic, and give up their power. It’s time for them to realize that restricting the choices of a free people is not the answer, and is only making this pandemic worse for everyone.

Governor Walz is scrambling to maintain control. With businesses shutting down left and right, he seeks to offer a few bread crumbs to keep new entrepreneurs in the state.

In a program lawmakers dub the “angel tax credit”, those who invest in new businesses in the state can apply for a 25% refundable tax credit. Walz initially pushed this program in 2019, and is now pushing it again.

“This brings in money from all across the country to Minnesota to invest in our startups here,” said Steve Grove, commissioner of the Department of Employment and Economic Development.

This sounds great at first, until you realize why Minnesota’s economy is struggling in the first place. 

Governor Walz and negligent legislators in St. Paul are the sole reason that Minnesota business owners have had to close their doors. Walz offering a tax credit is something of an insult considering how much money he has already TAKEN from businesses that dare defy his unlawful executive orders. 

On top of that, Walz is now proposing extreme tax hikes to pay for his socialist programs. Attracting businesses to the state appears to be his last priority!

When legislators on both sides of the aisle had the opportunity to reign in Walz’ powers, they failed over and over again. Now, it appears that Republicans are ready to give up and let Tyrant Tim Walz steamroll small business owners and families in Minnesota. 

Send a message to legislators and Governor Walz that his kind of behavior should not be tolerated in our state.
