Why Real ID Is Bad For Minnesotans

The federal Real ID Act of 2005 was passed with the intention of creating a federal registry of citizens and their private information. Minnesota was one of the last states to adopt the new Real ID standard for its drivers licenses, despite protests from the grassroots on both sides of the aisle.

Former State Representative Dennis Smith recently touted the passage of Real ID as one of his prime accomplishments in the legislature. In a video announcing his run for Attorney General in 2022,  Smith claims that his bill “...made air travel safer”.

Here’s why Smith’s 2017 Real ID Bill is bad for Minnesotans:

  • Infringes On Privacy: All Real IDs are documented in a federal registry, which federal agents can use for gun grabbing.

  • Violates The Constitution: The 10th Amendment to the United States Constitution reads… “The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.”. The Real ID Act of 2005 is in clear violation of this amendment by creating national identification standards.

  • Paves The Way For Vaccine Passports: With the flick of a pen, President Biden could implement a national vaccine passport system and use Real ID to enforce it.

Dennis Smith, along with the establishment leaders of both parties, pushed this bill through in 2017, despite harrowing opposition from the most conservative activists. Several local Republican Party units like the Scott County GOP passed resolutions condemning Real ID.

Despite representing Scott County in the Minnesota Legislature, Representative Tony Albright (R-55B) co-sponsored HR 3 and Senator Eric Pratt (R-55) sponsored SF 166. They chose to completely ignore the people that they were supposed to represent.

Because of COVID-19 restrictions, the deadline for mandatory adoption of Real ID has been pushed back to May 23rd, 2023. Only then will all Minnesotans realize just how bad Dennis Smith’s bill really was.

AG Candidate Brags About Dangerous ID Program

Just today, Dennis Smith -- a former Republican State Representative -- announced his campaign for Attorney General of Minnesota. With his announcement comes a plethora of policy “accomplishments”. Among which include fighting for Real ID, otherwise known as “Dangerous ID”.

The federal Real ID Act of 2005 was passed with the intention of creating a federal registry of citizens and their private information. By federalizing drivers licenses, the Federal Government is violating the 10th Amendment to the Constitution, which states that:

“The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.”

If Minnesotans do not receive their new federal identification by May 3rd 2023, they will be barred from boarding flights and entering federal buildings. If there ever came a point where the Federal Government began mandating vaccine passports, they would enforce it with Dangerous ID.

To bring Minnesota into compliance with federal demands, Dennis Smith authored legislation to make Dangerous ID a reality. Now, he’s bragging about it.

North Star Liberty Alliance does not and will not endorse candidates for elected office on any level. However, it is imperative that the people of Minnesota hear about these things when they consider their preferred candidate for office. So please, share this article with your friends and family.

Massive Backlash From Students Over Vaccine Mandates

University officials across the country have been taking steps towards mandatory vaccines. In Minnesota, Macalester College, Carleton College, Gustavus Adolphus College and the Mitchell Hamline School of Law have all announced that vaccines will be mandatory for students to return in the fall. While public schools like the University of Minnesota haven’t announced their vaccine guidelines, it’s clear that they haven’t taken mandatory vaccines off the table.

Students at colleges like Rutgers have announced that they have had enough. After the school announced that they would require the vaccine in late March, student groups like TurningPoint USA and Young Americans for Liberty orchestrated protests against the University’s decision to mandate COVID-19 vaccines.

The Guardian reports that Rutgers employees are not required to get the vaccine, as they have union protections. If these schools acknowledge the protections for teachers against mandatory health decisions, why don’t they do the same for the students?

Some states have taken action against this kind of behavior by completely banning vaccine passports -- proof that the vaccine has been administered. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis was the first to sign a ban, saying that:

“Individual Covid-19 vaccination records are private health information and should not be shared by a mandate.”

Leaders like Ron DeSantis are defending the rights of their citizens. Why won’t Governor Walz do the same? Governor Walz has not made his position on vaccine passports clear, but he has enacted bribes for getting the vaccine. The next step is mandatory vaccinations through passports -- which the Minnesota Department of Health has hinted their support of.

There’s still time to force Governor Walz to ban vaccine passports, but you and I must act quickly. When Governor Walz calls for a special legislative session on June 14th, legislators must tell him that they will not pass anything before they strip him of his power to enact vaccine passports.

Call your State Representative and State Senator now, and tell them to hold Governor Walz accountable on June 14th.

Republicans Move To Give Unelected Bureaucrats Emergency Powers

Republicans in the legislature claim they are eager to take away Governor Walz’ “emergency” powers, but they don’t seem to care where that power goes. If Walz signs on to the RINO reform proposal, Health Commissioner Jan Malcolm -- an unelected bureaucrat -- would be calling the shots in state government.

At a press conference held this morning, Senate Majority Leader Gazelka and House Minority Leader Kurt Daudt announced that they will begin pushing for emergency powers reform in the upcoming special session.

This sounds like great news… until you read beyond the title of the bill.

House File 2640, was introduced in the House by Representative Barb Haley and carried in the Senate by Senator Jeff Howe. This garbage proposal shifts full and complete authority to declare a “public health disaster declaration” from the Governor, to an unelected bureaucrat. Instead of firing Jan Malcolm as they have flirted with for months, Republicans want to promote her to Governor!

If passed, this bill would give the Minnesota Commissioner of Health total and complete control to implement the same type of sweeping lockdowns that Minnesotans experienced last year. How would you feel about Minnesota’s equivalent of Dr. Fauci gaining full control over your freedoms?

Not only that, this bill only talks about COVID-19. What about COVID-21? What about the variants of the virus that may come along? This leaves the door wide open for more sweeping lockdowns off of a whim. At the press conference, Senator Howe flatly said, “This bill does not do anything to Chapter 12...if another event happens, another pandemic, tornado or flood, [the Governor] could declare another emergency”.

This is just as bad as HF101 that legislative leadership pushed earlier this year. That bill sought to change the governor’s powers from a state statute to a constitutional amendment.

RINO “conservatives” in the state legislature have been pushing these Fake Repeal Emergency Powers bills for over a year now. They don’t care about ending the emergency, they just want an easy bill that Walz will sign -- even if it doesn’t actually fix the problem!

Legislative leaders have hinted that Walz may be willing to sign it, giving them the fake victory they’re hoping to brag about.

Make these phony conservatives pay for their lies. Call and email their offices now and tell them to take their names off of this disgrace of a bill immediately.

MN Government Shutdown Imminent

Though lawmakers in St. Paul appeared to have come to a budget agreement before the June 30th deadline, ironing out the details has proven challenging. If party leaders cannot pass a budget before July, the state government will shut down. It appears as though state agencies are preparing for this outcome.

The Minnesota Reformer reports that Minnesota State employees received preemptive layoff notices this week -- a sign that budget negotiations are close to falling through. This is likely due to policy disagreements between the Republican controlled Senate, and the DFL controlled House.

As long as Senate Majority Leader Paul Gazelka is putting together a wishlist of non-negotiable budget items, he should be pushing for the “Never Again” bill to come first. HF 2204 -- dubbed the “Never Again” bill -- is the only serious emergency powers reform bill in the legislature. If passed, the governor’s ability to unilaterally declare executive emergencies would be severely curtailed.

The trouble is, Paul Gazelka has shown zero willingness to move HF 2204 through the legislature. He wouldn’t even give the bill a hearing! The special session on June 14th is the best opportunity to pass this thing, and Gazelka has the ability to force Governor Walz to sign it!

Call Majority Leader Gazelka now, and tell him that the people of Minnesota want the “Never Again” bill passed into law.

Minnesota Must Join Free States; Ban Vaccine Passports

Over the past several weeks, many state governors have taken action against COVID-19 vaccine passports. As a refresher, a vaccine passport is proof of receiving the COVID-19 vaccine, which would be required upon entry of businesses. Mandating a vaccine passport is the same as instituting mandatory vaccines.

This is not to say that these state governors stand against the vaccine. In fact, Arizona Governor Doug Ducey still encourages citizens to receive the vaccine. He realizes that it should be a personal decision, not a government decision.

Meanwhile, far-left governors like Andrew Cuomo from New York appear to be enthusiastic about vaccine passports. Now, citizens of New York must either show their CDC vaccination card, or use a mobile app to prove inoculation before entry to businesses. This is what happens when politicians think they know what’s best for your life. Luckily, not all Americans feel the same.

As of writing, nearly half of all states have banned COVID-19 vaccine passports… and Minnesota is not one of them. It’s clear that Governor Walz takes cues from his far-left friends like Andrew Cuomo, so it's only a matter of time before he starts seriously considering the implementation of vaccine passports in Minnesota.

Will you take a stand against efforts to mandate vaccines in Minnesota? Send a warning message to Governor Walz by signing the petition to impeach him!

States Launch Vaccine Passport Enforcement

Left: Washington Governor Jay Inslee. Right: Minnesota Governor Tim Walz

For many months now, the North Star Liberty Alliance has warned that the implementation of vaccine passports is imminent. Though people are free to pursue the COVID-19 vaccine if they chose to, nobody should be forced to recieve it against their will. Unfortunately, the vaccine passport policy is gaining steam around the Nation. In states like Washington, it appears that you’ll need the vaccine before you can return to work.

Washington Governor Jay Inslee announced that employers within the state can only drop their mask policy after they provide documentation to the state proving all employees have been vaccinated. Not only is this a severe overreach from government into the private sector, but a blatant violation of health privacy.

If you live under the rule of Governor Tim Walz, then you probably are ready for what comes next. Tyrant Tim loves to borrow Orwellian ideas from his fellow governors around the nation, and Inslee is not an exception. He is not going to stop at vaccine bribes, he is going to keep pushing this thing until every single Minnesotan is vaccinated.

Do you remember when the Minnesota Department of Health teased the possibility of vaccine passports in Minnesota?  They’re prepared to enforce any policy that Walz conjures up, and “conservatives” in the State Senate just agreed to fully fund the department for the next two years. In fact, they agreed to fully fund every state agency that played a role in shutting down small business owners last year. All of this comes after Senate Majority Leader Paul Gazelka talked a big game on holding these agencies accountable.

No matter what your legislators choose to do, the North Star Liberty Alliance will continue to inform you about threats to Liberty in Minnesota, and put pressure on any politician who seeks to infringe upon your rights. Among our efforts includes our push to impeach Tyrant Tim Walz. Have you and your friends signed the Impeachment Petition?

Bipartisan Ire Over Budget Negotiations At Capitol

Above: Speaker Melissa Hortman, Governor Walz, and Senate Majority Leader Paul Gazelka

Though she refused to call out members of her own party, Left-wing Minnesota State Senator Erin Murphy made a very rare good point on Wednesday.

On Twitter, Murphy criticized the lack of transparency in the budget negotiation process. Despite agreeing on rough spending targets on May 17th, legislative leaders are still hammering out the final details on the specifics of what the final budget will look like. Though they’re supposed to finish negotiations by Friday, legislators may keep the details under wraps until the special session on June 14th.

In her video, Senator Murphy shows the empty rooms in the Minnesota Capitol, noting that the people of Minnesota are being “shut out” of talks over the $52 billion budget. Former GOP House Majority Leader, Matt Dean, quickly tweeted his agreement on the lack of transparency in the Capitol. Despite calling out the secrecy, Senator Murphy is highly unlikely to take any real action towards righting this wrong. Just like most of her Senate colleagues, she is all talk and no action.

Openness about the budget and legislative proceedings in general has been a huge problem during the 2021 legislative session. With most proceedings now being held privately on Zoom, Minnesotans aren’t learning about how their elected leaders are scheming to waste their tax dollars.

If the budget is hidden from view until Governor Walz calls a special session on June 14th, legislators can sneak whatever pet projects they want into this spending bill without consequences.

The second that the budget agreement becomes public, the North Star Liberty Alliance will get to work on analyzing every spending proposal in the budget and report back to you on just how much waste your elected officials are pushing for.

Unemployment Benefits Leading To Devastating Labor Shortage

As could have been predicted, the policy put forth during the lockdowns of paying
people more to stay home than to work, has resulted in desperate consequences for a number
of businesses and industries.

For example, I work with healthcare companies that provide residential care for those
with disabilities, in the form of residential group homes and Long-Term Care (LTC) facilities. This
segment of healthcare has been crushed by the impossibility of hiring and coercing former
workers to return to their positions. These caregivers are not licensed health care providers but
are the assistive personnel that make up the vast majority of the staff (feed, clothe and bathe
residents). I have been hearing story after story of the directors and supervisors of these
facilities working endless hours and being short staffed by as much as 50%. This is creating a
crisis for the residents, whose care will likely be compromised, and for the remaining staff who
are becoming burnt out.

Additionally, this problem is being felt keenly in the food service industry, and not just
local small business owners: On a Friday, my local Panera Bread, where my daughter works,
closed at 3:00 PM because two staff members failed to show up for their shifts. That has got to
be a lot of lost revenue for that store! I cannot help but think that those staff members knew
they are going to be fired and will join many others whose unemployment is garnering them a
substantial wage over their regular work.

This is absolutely destructive for our American way of life and is insidiously ushering in
Socialism. Please contact your representatives and tell them to opt out of accepting federal
funds that are crippling the ability of our communities to return to normal.

Walz "Expecting" Taxpayers To Pay For Riots

In a press conference on Monday, Governor Walz announced that he has an “expectation” that Republicans will put forth $150 million for fixing riot damaged businesses in the Twin Cities. This all comes after Governor Walz mismanaged the state’s economy and failed to properly respond to the riots of summer 2020.

Governor Walz and his friend, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Fry, are responsible for business closures in Minneapolis. First, they shut down businesses in the name of COVID-19 “safety”, and then let those same businesses be looted and burned. Looking to cover up their mistakes, Walz is now pushing to use taxpayer dollars to fix damage left after the riots.

If Republicans in the State House and State Senate agree, this funding would be rolled into the upcoming bonding bill. Because this bill requires a 60% supermajority vote of approval in both the House and the Senate, Republicans have a good opportunity to stop Walz in his tracks. If all DFLers in the State House vote in support of this bonding bill, they would only need 11 Republican votes to push it through. Republicans in the House and Senate need to hear from you!

Tell House Minority Leader Kurt Daudt and Senate Majority Leader Paul Gazelka that their caucuses need to hold Walz accountable. If taxpayer dollars are used to pay for riot damage, Walz will be let off the hook for his damage. Call and email Rep. Daudt and Sen. Gazelka now!
