After activists across the state hammered their legislators with phone calls and emails, both the Minnesota House and Senate voted late Tuesday night to end Governor Walz’ executive “emergency”. This is great news for liberty-lovers everywhere, though the battle isn’t over yet.

Governor Walz still has the power to declare an emergency whenever he wants! Come this fall, he may lock down the entire state again! Thanks to new fears about the Delta Variant of COVID-19, many nations are re-engaging their lockdown protocols, and Minnesota could soon follow suit!

Over the past few weeks, legislators have been negotiating gigantic budget bills at the Capitol. Many of these budget bills include severe compromises from Republicans, like the inclusion of “California car” mandates, and the exclusion of real school choice! Maybe the most egregious compromise includes a 22% budget increase for Radical Attorney General Keith Ellison’s office!

Senate Majority Leader Paul Gazelka had ample opportunities to push Representative Mortensen’s Never Again bill through the legislature as a part of budget negotiations. This bill is a one-of-a-kind repeal of the governor’s ability to declare an executive emergency. Mortensen's bill is the only proposal to date that will stop Walz from taking advantage of the Delta Variant and shutting down our state again!

Gazelka didn’t lift a finger to get this thing passed. 

So, the battle to hold Walz accountable rages on. Republicans will likely make this a campaign issue for the 2022 election. Until then, Walz will maintain his ability to do whatever he wants as long as he declares a new “emergency”.

If you’ve had enough of this nonsense, then sign the official Walz Impeachment Petition! If the Republican Senate Majority won’t hold Governor Walz accountable, then you and I must take action and show our politicians what matters most to the people.

As budget negotiations at the Capitol continue, it appears that your elected leaders have let you down once again. In yet another concession to the radical left, Senate Republicans announced on Tuesday of last week that they would be dropping any effort to stop Walz’ new “California Car” mandates.

When implemented, these new mandates will increase the price on consumer vehicles by $2,000 to $2,500 per vehicle. They will also regulate what kinds of cars can be sold in the state. All of this is done in an effort to have a negligible effect on the changing climate.

Clearly, these mandates that will be implemented by Governor Walz are an infringement upon the free market -- something that Senate Republicans claim to defend.

This is far from the only concession made by the Senate so far, and It’s not like conservatives are garnering any wins in exchange… in fact, Senate Majority Leader Paul Gazleka hasn’t even mentioned Representative Mortensen’s “Never Again” Bill once! Forcing Walz to sign his powers away should be the first priority for the Senate Republicans, followed closely by actually doing what they campaigned on!

Instead, patriots like you get nothing from these budget negotiations. Once again, Paul Gazelka let you down.

If you’ve ever worked on a group project then you know how the story typically goes.

You and maybe some others do 80% of the work… but other members of the group are deadweight.

Conservative champion Erik Mortensen has in-hand the Never Again bill, ending Gov. Walz’s unconstitutional emergency powers. All he needs is the conservatives to get behind this real means to rollback Walz.

But even with plenty of time to put a bill on the floor and dismantle Walz’s emergency powers themselves, supposed “conservatives” are pushing the work onto you and me.

Quite simply, they are refusing to do the job we elected them to do.

Instead of taking real action to dismantle Walz’ emergency powers by passing the Never Again bill, legislators are pushing for a constitutional amendment.

This amendment proposal is bad news.

By making the governor’s emergency powers part of a constitutional amendment, legislators push the responsibility of fixing things back to you and me -- the people.

You and I wouldn’t get a voice on this thing until November of 2022! Who knows what damage Walz could do in the meantime.

Worse yet, If this ballot initiative fails, executive power reform is lost forever. Progressives will laugh and say “the voters have spoken”.

If this passes, it will put the governor’s ability to declare emergency powers into the state constitution… which is virtually impossible to repeal.

Either way, your politicians are setting you up for a lose-lose situation.

Senate Majority Leader Paul Gazelka MUST demand real and immediate emergency powers repeal so that nothing like the past year can ever happen again.

The Republican Senate Majority needs to hear from you! Tell them to back off of this bad deal. Demand NO to the coward’s-way-out constitutional amendment.

Then, tell them to grow a spine and pass SF2356, the bill to END Walz’s emergency powers!

On June 17th, patriots gathered to discuss and learn about the effort to Impeach Tyrant Tim Walz. The Town Hall was held for Representative Eric Lucero’s district, as he refuses to sign on to Articles of Impeachment.

 The attendees showed their eagerness to hold Governor Walz accountable for his crimes. As laid out in the presentation, attendees learned of Walz’ efforts to:

1. Illegally shut down all restaurants, bars, coffee shops, gyms, theaters, breweries, and ski resorts in Minnesota
2. Unconstitutionally prohibit citizens from gathering with friends, family, and in Houses of Worship
3. Stick COVID-positive patients into Long-Term Care Facilities, causing the death rate in Minnesota to skyrocket
4. Write his own laws, and create punishments for those “laws” that he created

Lucero’s constituents agreed that Articles of Impeachment was not only necessary to right this wrong, but to set an example for future governors who may consider abusing their power. Unfortunately, it appears that Representative Lucero doesn’t view these issues as important.

In response to phone calls and emails from patriots like you, Representative Lucero announced that he would not be co-sponsoring Articles of Impeachment against Walz. When the NSLA team got word, we immediately got to work on advertisements pushing Lucero to change his mind.

In order for Impeachment to get a floor vote, there have to be at least 15 supporters of the resolution in the House. By refusing to sign on to Articles of Impeachment, Lucero is one of a handful of legislators who are preventing a vote on the House floor.

If the grassroots patriots of Minnesota unite on this issue, Governor Walz is in trouble.

When news broke that Governor Walz was giving up his peacetime emergency, many activists sighed a breath of relief. Though he has gotten away with a variety of crimes over the past year, at the very least his ability to write and enforce his own laws will come to an end…

… Or at least, that’s what they thought.

The truth of the matter is, Governor Walz still has the power to declare a peacetime emergency under Chapter 12 of the Minnesota Statutes. Governor Walz can and will declare another emergency whenever he wants. With talks of a new “Delta variant” of COVID-19, Walz could shut down businesses and enforce masks as soon as fall of this year!

The Minnesota Legislature needs to take action on completely overhauling Walz’ Chapter 12 authority RIGHT NOW, before it’s too late! There are rumors flying around that suggest the Minnesota Legislature may push for a constitutional amendment dealing with emergency powers… But voters wouldn’t be able to vote on it until November of 2022. Imagine how much Walz can do with his powers until then!

If the Legislature will not restructure Chapter 12, then they must impeach and remove Walz from office before he has the opportunity to cause more damage.

The Lobbyist Legislator strikes again! House Minority Leader Kurt Daudt (who’s also employed by a Washington D.C. lobbying firm called Stateside Associates) appeared in a commercial last week prompting Minnesotans to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.

Kurt Daudt is not a doctor nor a scientist. He attempts to use his credentials as a politician to “urge you to take your shot today”. Check out the ad for yourself!

While Daudt freely shares his approval for the vaccine, he fails to share the fact that his lobbying firm lists pharmaceutical companies as clients on their website. Clearly offering a conflict of interest for Daudt.

This fiasco should come as no surprise for Minnesotans. Swampy politicians like Kurt Daudt have been out of touch with the grassroots patriots across the state for some time now. Him sucking up to Governor Walz’ whims is nothing new.

For example, Daudt has kept quiet on Walz’ taxpayer funded bribes for receiving the COVID-19 vaccine. These bribes include gift cards, fishing licenses, state fair tickets and more. 

If Minnesotans want the vaccine, they have every right to get it! But considering that the vaccine has been available since December... if you want it, you’ve probably already gotten it. 

Both Daudt and Walz seem to disregard the notion of medical freedom by pushing so hard for vaccines. They won’t stop until every single Minnesotan has been inoculated. First they’ll make advertisements and bribe you to get it, next they’ll implement vaccine passports and mandatory vaccinations.

Proponents of school choice in Minnesota were let down by Senate Republicans on Tuesday. Senator Roger Chamberlain, the chair of the Senate E-12 Education Committee, announced that they have dropped their school voucher proposal as part of the Education Omnibus bill.

The initial vouchers proposal would take a portion of tax dollars and put them into a fund that's directly available for parents to use for private school tuition. This would have given parents real choice when it comes to schooling for their children. Sadly, Roger Chamberlain and Senate Republicans gave up on it. 

The bill, however, does include a 2.45% funding increase for failing public schools in Minnesota -- This taxpayer-funded increase comes after countless numbers of parents pulled their children out of public schools in 2020.

After public schools forced children on Zoom, suspended sports, and put masks on their faces, it’s clear that parents need a real alternative to what’s being offered. Instead of offering true school choice legislation, Republicans rewarded public schools with more funds.

According to the Minnesota Reformer, Senator Chamberlain was “...very happy with the way this bill came out”. This is despite compromising on the principles that his voters care so deeply about. This “compromise” of an education bill is a complete disappointment.

What will Chamberlain say to the people of his district? How can he stand in front of a group of school choice advocates and promise private school vouchers, only to turn around and drop the proposal all together. Senate Republicans had leverage on this bill, and they completely forfeited it.

In a surprise twist of events, it’s the House Republicans in Minnesota who are pushing for socialized medicine, while the House DFLers are opposing it!

Making this his political hill to die on, House Minority Leader Kurt Daudt introduced an amendment to the Commerce, Climate, and Energy Policy Omnibus bill that would reauthorize Minnesota’s reinsurance program for years to come. House DFLers killed his amendment using parliamentary procedures.

Reinsurance is the practice of the State Government bailing out insurance companies with taxpayer dollars in an effort to lower insurance costs. In reality, this is the same kind of wealth redistribution that progressives like Alexandria Occasio-Cortez and Bernie Sanders support! In fact, DFL Congresswoman Angie Craig is pushing this effort on a national level!

On Monday, Kurt Daudt took to the House Floor to sing his praises for the reinsurance program in Minnesota. With quotes like:

“Everyone agrees that this program has been so successful.”

and

“So this is certainly a conservative and very efficient way of providing this stability to the marketplace.”

Daudt claims that this is about “market stabilization”, when really it’s market manipulation! The conservative position on this issue would not be to cede ground towards socialized medicine, but to get the government OUT of the free market!

If Daudt really is the fiscal conservative that he routinely claims to be, he needs to understand that supporting this kind of effort is a massive mistake! Will you call him right now and tell him to reconsider?

At the beginning of the special session on June 14th, Cal Bahr and the New House Republican Caucus (NHRC) introduced a new bill that they claim would ensure Governor Walz’ months-long peacetime emergency would never happen again.

When North Star Liberty Alliance got a hold of their bill -- HF28 -- we discovered that this legislation very much could allow a governor to abuse their powers. While Representative Mortensen’s HF2204 legislative proposal completely eliminates the governor’s ability to declare an emergency, HF28 maintains that ability. 

While they tout their “Never Again” bill as the perfect legislation to hold Walz accountable, it pales in comparison to Representative Mortensen’s Never Again bill.

Representative Jeremy Munson, who caucuses with the New House Republicans, claims that his bill WOULD strip the governor of their ability to enact emergencies, despite what the actual bill language says. In a comment on the North Star Liberty Alliance Facebook page, Munson claimed that:

“Read the bills, and you will see that the bill introduced today shifts all public health emergencies away from the Governor's control (chapter 12) to Chapter 144, which prevents the government from infringing on any civil liberties without first getting a court order. There is NO lawmaking authority and the Governor is not involved.”

Munson contradicts his very own staff at the New House Republican Caucus. According to the Minnesota Sun, Margaret Martin (a researcher for NHRC) explained... 

“that while HF2204 takes away the power from a governor entirely, HF28 ‘significantly reduces his power to declare emergencies and stops his ability to write law.’”.

THAT is the difference between Mortensen’s HF2204 and the NHRC’s HF28. The governor can still declare an emergency, thus ensuring that executive power abuse CAN happen again. 

Representative Mortensen made this much clear in a post on his Facebook page:

Members of the NHRC thought that they could get away with stealing the title of Mortensen’s popular “Never Again” Bill, without including the language that makes the bill so effective. The bottom line is that if the governor can declare an emergency for any length of time, they can and will use that power to harm Minnesotans. 

Even the left-wing MPR News knows that tax hikes are done for!

Though the state budget negotiations continue, it appears that any effort to jack up your taxes at the Capitol has been defeated. According to MPR, roughly 560,000 Minnesota businesses and independent tax filers will actually see tax returns this year. This is fantastic news, and it is all because of NSLA members like you!

You made the phone calls, you sent the emails, and you contributed your hard earned dollars towards this fight. At the beginning of this legislative session, North Star Liberty Alliance laid out their Legislative Roadmap that highlights the goals for this session. As of writing, two out of their three main targets are complete:

• Organize to strip away the governor’s Emergency Powers and END the Emergency Powers Statute: IN PROGRESS

• Stop forced vaccinations: COMPLETE

• Stop tax hikes pushed by greedy politicians: COMPLETE

This is the second budget year where North Star Liberty Alliance has made an enormous impact thanks to  hardworking members like you. In 2019, NSLA ran targeted pressure campaigns to kill Walz’ gas tax proposal. The politicians heard your voices, and finally gave up on any kind of radical gas tax increases.
